Looking to engage a Photobooth, but unsure how to go about booking a service? It may seem daunting that there are so many processes to go through. 

Here, we are going to break down the process of engaging a Photobooth service and teach you how simple it is to ensure you get a great Photobooth experiece!

 

2. The Different Photobooth Services

Before you get started, it would be important to clearly understand the different types of Photobooth Services, and how each type of service works. 

Of course, you’d want to know exactly what you will be getting, and whether it will be a good fit for your event.

2.1 Classic Photobooth

What Is It?

The Classic Photobooth is the bread and butter of all Photobooth companies. While the entire setup of the Classic Photobooth may vary between companies, it ultimately still narrows down to the same elements.

How Does It Work?

  1. Once you have confirmed the Classic Photobooth service, the Photobooth company will begin to design your unique printout template.
  2. Do let them know if you’d like to include a certain logo, date, or event name etc. Be sure to let them know any ideas that you have too.
  3. During the actual day, a Photobooth would be set up at your indicated event location 15-30 minutes before your event starts
  4. Guests will be guided to take their photos at the Photobooth. 
  5. Each Photoshoot will take about 1 minute, and each photo takes about 10 seconds to print. 
  6. Most Photobooth vendors will provide an unlimited printing service. This means that each one of your guests will be getting a photo. (If there are 10 people in the picture, 10 photos will be printed)
  7. You will also be able to get the soft copies of all photos taken.

What You Will Be Getting?

  • Generally, these are the things you should be looking for in a Photobooth Package. Do take note, as anything less indicated in the package would mean that you might be subject to “hidden costs”.

2.2 Instagram Printing

What Is It?

As the popularity of Instagram continues to rise today, so does Instagram Printing Service.

By simply using the Instagram platform, your guests will be able to print photos that they post on Instagram with a hashtag set by you.

Instagram printing has become especially popular with casual corporate events as having many people post the event online can help create a campaign that improves awareness of the event dramatically.

 

How Does It Work?

  1. Once you have confirmed the Instagram Printing Service, the Photobooth company will begin to design your unique printout template.
  2. Do let them know if you’d like to include a certain logo, date, or event name etc. Be sure to let them know any ideas that you have too.
  3. Do note that Instagram Printing does not necessarily require to have an Instagram template as a design!
  4. On the actual day, you would need to prepare a small area for the printer to be set up. 
  5. A banner would be set up to let your guests know exactly how the Instagram Printing works, and to also show everyone the unique Hashtag that you would be using for the event.
  6. Every photo that is posted on Instagram with the hashtag will automatically be printed. Guests can request for more prints, based on the number of people in the photo.
  7. After the event, you will receive soft copies of all the photos taken and posted.

2.3 Roving Instant Prints

What Is It?

Want to have a roving photographer at your event, and also looking to have the photos instantly printed for your guests?

Roving Instant Prints is a two-in-one service comprising of a Professional Roving Photographer and an editing crew to instantly retouch and print the photos for your guests.

How Does It Work?

  1. Once you have confirmed the Roving Photography with Instant Prints, the Photobooth company will begin to design your unique printout template.
  2. Do let them know if you’d like to include a certain logo, date, or event name etc. Be sure to let them know any ideas that you have too.
  3. During the actual day, a printer and a computer would be set up at your desired location. 
  4. Do tell your emcee to announce about the Roving Photography Printing service. 
  5. The Roving Photographer will go around to take photos, and each photo would be transferred to the computer via a Wireless LAN Connection.
  6. Each photo would be digitally retouched before printing.
  7. Guests can collect their photos at the dedicated setup location.
  8. You will also be able to get the soft copies of all photos taken.

It is extremely important, and even more so today, to be able to pick the Photobooth companies that will ensure the experience you desire for your guests.

3.1 Price

The Problem:

 Time and again, we have seen countless clients in search of the cheapest Photobooth service in the market. 

 There has been a misconception that all Photobooth services are the same, and that there will not be a difference between a premium Photobooth service vs a cheap Photobooth service.

 Truth be told, the disparity between a quality Photobooth and a bad Photobooth service is HUGE!

As a good indicator, try to make sure that the Photobooth company that you’re engaging is a professional in the Photography Industry (doing this full time).

Surely a company running a full time professional business in this industry would be more ideal at producing quality results.

3.3 Equipment

The Problem: 

Having good equipment is one of the most important components of all Photobooth companies. These are the core equipment essential to a Photobooth setup: 

  • Printer
  • Camera
  • Lighting
  • Props & Backdrop

As a Photobooth’s quality are very much dependent on the equipment, you can very clearly notice the difference between an amazing Photobooth and a mediocre Photobooth based on the equipment they are using.

The Solution:

Don’t be afraid to ask details about the equipment they are using. Here are several guidelines you can follow when trying to find out if a Photobooth company is using the ideal equipment.

Generally, a dye-sublimation printer will allow for a much faster printing as compared to inkjet printers, which is essential in a Photobooth. 

Also, the dye-sublimation method of printing protects the print from discoloration from UV light and the air, while also rendering the print water-resistant.

  • Camera 

DSLR Cameras or Mirrorless Cameras work great for Photobooths. You just want to make sure that they are not using a particularly outdated camera model.

  • Lighting

Some Photobooths use Strobe Light (device that produces flash), while some Photobooths use Continuous Light.

If you are having an event with Pets, or anyone that is sensitive to strong flashes of lights, then you would need to find a Photobooth with a strong Continuous Light.

An advantage of having Continuous Light is that it can also attract a crowd to the booth, which in turn can help get more photos taken overall

  • Props & Backdrop

Feel free to ask the Photobooth companies what props they have, or what backdrop designs they have.

Always be sure to be satisfied with the props and backdrop design before you proceed with the confirmation.

3.4 Photography Skills

The Problem:

It may seem that setting up a Photobooth does not require any knowledge or skill in Photography, which is a mistake even many Photobooth owners make.

However, to be able to adjust the camera and lighting requires knowledge to some extent.

Most events will also experience an overall change in lighting (as the sun begins to rise / set), and it would require the Photographer to notice and make the small changes to the camera throughout the event.

The Solution:

It would be good to make sure that the company has some background in the Photography Industry.

Asking them for a Photo Portfolio would be a good idea to gauge if their quality meets your expectations.

Besides the knowledge on photography (mentioned above), the physical prints are also a quintessential part of the Photobooth experience..

More often than not, what you see on the portfolio differs from what you will be actually receiving.

The physical feel of the print, as well as its color vibrancy cannot be measured from photos online.
